The PSA, signed on Dec. 30, 2025 followed a successful Competitive Selection Process conducted by the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative (Prosielco).
Under the agreement, Vivant Energy will supply 11 megawatts of capacity from its diesel power plant in Barangay Bogo, Maria, Siquijor.
Turning point for the island
Power from the facility, Vivant said in a press release, will be distributed to the municipalities of Larena, Lazi, Maria, San Juan, Enrique Villanueva, and Siquijor, helping stabilize electricity supply for households, tourism establishments, and local businesses.
Prosielco general manager Glenn Galvan said the partnership marks a critical shift for the island’s power situation.
“We are excited about this partnership and we are hopeful that upon completion of the power plant, households and businesses will gain access to stable and dependable electricity,” Galvan said.
Reliable power key to growth
As one of the country’s emerging tourism destinations, Siquijor’s access to dependable electricity is seen as vital to sustaining economic expansion and improving quality of life.
The province led the Negros Island Region in GDP growth in 2024, expanding by 7.9 percent to P13.78 billion from P12.77 billion in 2023.
Focus on underserved areas
“It has long been Vivant Energy’s thrust to prioritize areas that are largely underserved,” said Eric Omamalin, vice president for off-grid solutions at Vivant Energy.
“We believe progress starts where the grid ends.”
Power crisis draws national attention
Siquijor was placed under a state of calamity in June 2025 after residents endured power outages lasting up to 20 hours a day, crippling tourism and essential services.
The crisis was highlighted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in his recent State of the Nation Address, where he called for urgent private-sector intervention to address chronic power shortages. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
