Shell Energy, Greenlight seal solar power supply agreement

Shell Energy Philippines Inc. (SEPH) has signed a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Greenlight Renewables Holdings Inc.,  through subsidiary San Isidro Solar Power Corp., for the purchase of electricity from a ground-mounted solar farm in Leyte.

The agreement marks a milestone for the joint venture between Emerging Power Inc. (EPI) and Shell Overseas Investments B.V. (SOIBV), as it is the first PSA since the venture’s formation.

15-year deal for 120-MWp solar power

Under the 15-year agreement, SEPH will purchase 120 megawatts peak (MWp) of electricity from Phase 1 of the San Isidro Solar Power Project, which is scheduled to begin commercial operations by the second quarter of 2026, the company said in a press statement.

The project is expected to make a significant contribution to renewable energy capacity in the Visayas and advance the country’s decarbonization goals.

The milestone coincides with Shell’s 111th year in the Philippines and the 5th anniversary of SEPH, reflecting the company’s continuing shift toward sustainable energy solutions.

Commitment to clean energy

“Our strong partnership with Greenlight, along with our decision to fully offtake from this project, reflects Shell's commitment to providing cleaner and more affordable energy solutions,” said Bernd Krukenberg, SEPH president.

Greenlight president and CEO  Jasmin Agbon added, “We are proud to see the San Isidro Solar Power Project move from vision to reality. This collaboration supports the Philippines’ energy security and sustainability goals.”

Greenlight, a joint venture between EPI and SOIBV, develops and operates large-scale renewable projects in the Philippines.

The 120-MWp Phase 1 of the San Isidro Solar Power Project has completed construction and is already under testing and commissioning, supplying energy to the grid.

SEPH, the registered retail electricity supplier of Shell companies in the Philippines, plans to sell the solar-generated power to commercial and industrial clients, strengthening its clean energy portfolio and expanding its market presence over the next five years.  —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
