Remote schools get digital boost through GSIS-DepEd collaboration

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is ramping up its efforts to improve access to education in remote areas by expanding its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).

Through its Adopt-a-School Program, GSIS is supporting 30 public schools this year—the highest number since the program began in 2014. In total, 164 schools across the country have benefited from the initiative.

Among the latest beneficiaries is San Francisco Elementary School in Bagong Nayon, Misamis Occidental, a DepEd-designated “Last Mile School.” The upland campus, which serves just 22 students with four teachers, is accessible only by a one-hour drive followed by a three-hour trek.

GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso and DepEd officials formalized the donation on June 20 with the signing of a Deed of Donation. The school received five laptops, nine mobile tablets, and two printers as part of a complete ICT package.

This ongoing collaboration aims to provide much-needed resources to underserved communities.

“Every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of where they live,” Veloso said. “Our partnership with the Department of Education helps us reach more learners and bring meaningful change to schools across the nation.” —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
