Homegrown ride-hailing firm Xpress, a member company of the PJ Lhuillier Group, is making a bold move toward sustainable transportation with the launch of its electric vehicle (EV) fleet in partnership with global EV leader BYD.

The official unveiling will take place this February at Blue Leaf in BGC, marking a significant step in green mobility innovation for the Philippines.

Through this collaboration, Xpress aims to redefine urban transport by reducing carbon emissions while creating new economic opportunities for local drivers under its Xpress Negosyo Program.

“At Xpress, we are committed to driving innovation that benefits both our passengers and our driver partners. Partnering with BYD allows us to accelerate our vision of a sustainable and inclusive transportation system for Filipinos,” said Jean Lhuillier, chair of Xpress.

The BYD electric vehicles, known for their cutting-edge technology and efficiency, will soon be available for booking via the Xpress app. This initiative supports Xpress’s ambitious goal of transitioning 30 percent of its fleet to EVs within three years, helping curb carbon emissions while enhancing passenger comfort through modern, high-tech vehicles.

The launch event will bring together industry leaders and key stakeholders to discuss the future of sustainable urban transport. Attendees will get an exclusive look at the new EV fleet and gain insights into the Xpress Negosyo Program, which provides drivers with accessible financing options to own their own EVs.

With this move, Xpress continues to challenge multinational ride-hailing companies, proving that a homegrown brand can lead the way in innovation and sustainability in Philippine transportation. —Ed.: Corrie S. Narisma
