President Marcos, through the National Economic and Development Agency (NEDA) whose board he chairs, took a pivotal step to expand the types of electric vehicles (EVs) eligible for zero  import tariffs until 2028.

The NEDA board approved this extension under Executive Order No. 12, broadening zero tariffs to include e-motorcycles, e-bicycles, and various hybrid vehicles, alongside traditional battery EVs.

This strategy aims to accelerate the Philippines' transition to sustainable transport, decrease dependence on fossil fuels, and foster a greener economy, NEDA said in a statement.

The initiative also encompasses reduced duties on completely knocked down EVs, further incentivizing local assembly and adoption of eco-friendly vehicles, the agency said.
