Insider Spotlight
The appointment was approved during the company's organizational meeting on June 24, according to a disclosure filed with the Philippine Stock Exchange. The committee will also include independent directors Anthony Ferdinand Yu and Daniel Tirona Francisco as members.
Why it matters
The appointment places the gaming law expert at the helm of PhilWeb's governance oversight as the company pursues expansion in regulated online gaming and digital technology services. The move also signals continued emphasis on board independence and regulatory compliance following the firm's change in control earlier this year.
Quiogue joined PhilWeb's board in March as an independent director after Nexora Holdings Inc. and Velora Holdings Inc. acquired a controlling stake in the company from Gregorio Araneta Inc., prompting a board overhaul and the reconstitution of key board committees.
Before accepting the board seat, Quiogue said she had carefully assessed potential conflicts with her legal advisory work in the gaming sector and committed to recusing herself from matters that could affect her independence.
The bigger picture
Quiogue is the founder and CEO of Arden Consult and is widely recognized for her expertise in Philippine gaming law and regulatory matters. She advises domestic and multinational gaming companies on licensing, compliance and corporate transactions and has been consistently ranked by Chambers and Partners Gaming & Gambling Rankings.
PhilWeb has been repositioning itself following its management-led takeover, expanding partnerships that support regulated online gaming platforms, including technology deployments for Hann Online and FBM Philippines' electronic gaming network.
The company has also strengthened its governance structure through new committee appointments and compliance designations approved during the June organizational meeting. —Daxim L. Lucas | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
