DigiPlus secures South Africa licenses to enter $4.9-B online gambling market

Africa’s largest online gaming market is now within reach for DigiPlus in 2026 after it secured regulatory approval in South Africa.

The Philippine gaming firm bagged three licenses from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, unlocking entry into a $4.9 billion industry.

“South Africa is set to be DigiPlus’ second international market after the company’s entry into Brazil. Brazil targets to start full commercial operations within the first half of 2026,” the online gambling giant said in a stock exchange filing on Thursday.

Western Cape accounts for about 31 percent of national revenues, making it the most strategic launchpad for operators.

DigiPlus earlier paused its first Brazilian brand “GamePlus” following a soft launch in September, as it recalibrates its offering ahead of a planned full relaunch in early 2026.

Earnings hold as strategy shifts

DigiPlus kept 2025 earnings broadly flat at P12.6 billion despite a 12 percent jump in revenue, as regulatory changes disrupted activity across the industry.

President Andy Tsui said in late March the company has been migrating high-value users to its proprietary platform following the late-2025 e-wallet delinking.

The pivot toward core VIP players and alternative payment channels helped cushion the impact and stabilize earnings momentum.
