Online gambling giant DigiPlus Interactive Corp. announced plans to enter South Africa, a digital betting market valued at about $1.6 billion in 2023 and 2024, as part of its international growth strategy.

The expansion follows the company’s upcoming Brazil launch in September and positions DigiPlus in Africa’s most mature online gambling hub, where digital sports betting accounts for nearly half of total gaming revenues.

DigiPlus will file for a National Manufacturer License, Bookmaker License, and Bookmaker Premises License with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, known for its transparent processes and digital readiness.

“We are thrilled to take this next bold step in our international journey,” said DigiPlus chair and business tycoon Eusebio Tanco said in a statement.

“South Africa is not just the largest online gaming market in Africa, it’s a gateway to the continent’s digital future. As we expand from Southeast Asia to Latin America and now Africa, we remain committed to responsible innovation, local compliance, and developing products that connect deeply with culture and community,” he added.

The licensing process involves intensive probity checks for the company and its ultimate beneficial owners, followed by board review and platform testing, with a minimum six-month processing timeline.
