The SEA-H2X is a modern, high-capacity fiber-optic submarine cable designed to handle the growing demand for internet and telecommunications traffic in the region. It has six main landing points across Southeast Asia: Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
“Building up the Converge international cabling capacity has always been a long-term investment and today, we see a major development on that front. As early as now, we’re preparing for the region’s capacity needs, as far ahead as 10-15 years down the road,” Converge CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy said on Thursday.
With a capacity of 160 terabits per second (Tbps), the SEA-H2X cable will support international internet capacity and strengthen the stability of undersea connections throughout Asia.
This is beneficial for the Philippines, where businesses and consumers rely heavily on fast and stable internet. Industries like outsourcing, business process outsourcing (BPO), and large multinational corporations are expected to benefit the most from this enhanced connectivity.
Converge is part of the SEA-H2X consortium, which includes China Mobile International, China United Network Communications, and AP SEA H2X Sdn. Bhd. The cable is being built by HMN Technologies Ltd., a specialist in undersea cable systems.
