📌 Insider Spotlight

  • Mobile data prices in PH down 95 percent since DITO’s market entry
  • DITO 5G speeds hit 597 Mbps, outperforming incumbents
  • Wireless broadband seen as key to boosting underserved homes

DITO Telecommunity is turning its focus to fixed wireless access (FWA) as the next growth frontier in its ongoing campaign to disrupt the country’s telecom sector, CEO Eric Alberto told reporters during a press briefing in at the firm’s Taguig City head office on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

Why it matters

Despite strong digital engagement on mobile, the Philippines remains underserved on home broadband—with only 8 to 9 million of 24 million households connected, according to Alberto.

“Wireless is how we bridge the digital divide for every Filipino home,” he said.

The backstory

Before DITO’s 2021 launch, Filipino consumers were paying among the highest mobile data rates globally—$11 per GB. In contrast, prices have now dropped to $0.52 per GB.

“Because of DITO’s presence, two major shifts have occurred: First, prices have dropped dramatically… Second, service quality has improved across the board,” said Alberto.

By the numbers

  • 597.7 Mbps: DITO’s reported maximum 5G speed
  • 92.87 Mbps: Average 4G broadband speed in DITO’s latest government audit
  • 14 of 16: Opensignal awards won by DITO for mobile experience

The big picture

DITO aims to leapfrog legacy players with a fully 5G standalone network. Wireless infrastructure, Alberto said, provides resilience via multiple power and connectivity redundancies, and can reach areas fiber networks can’t.

“Unlike legacy telcos, we’re not weighed down by outdated platforms… Our systems are digital-first, data-driven, AI-powered, and built for scale,” he said.

What’s next

Alberto said DITO is committed to elevating Philippine digital infrastructure to First World standards, not just by competing but by transforming.

“Connectivity today is not a luxury. It is a necessity as essential as electricity and clean water.”
