This partnership will help MCIA establish a framework for sustainable initiatives to reach its carbon reduction goals.
The agreement was formalized during the 59th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation.
Under the Net Zero Roadmap, endorsed by Airport Carbon Accreditation, ACI will guide MCIA in carbon footprint projections, governance plans, and sustainable operations.
MCIA, which recently earned Level 1 certification in carbon management, is now working toward Level 5 certification. Reaching Level 5 will require the airport to maintain a Net Zero balance for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while also addressing Scope 3 emissions.
Management’s view
“We are proud to be at the forefront of advancing sustainability in Filipino airports. While we recognize there is still much work ahead, our partnership with ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East gives us confidence that our initiatives will leave a meaningful, long-lasting impact on the environment,” said Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital GMCAC, the private operator of the MCIA.
“We aspire to inspire other airports across the Philippines and Asia to follow suit. Together, we can drive sustainable tourism, ensuring that destinations worldwide offer enriching and responsible experiences for generations to come,” he added.
