  • Goal: Make diabetes care simpler, more accessible, and more empowering for Filipinos

  • Pharmacist training strengthens nationwide patient support

Watsons Philippines is strengthening its role as an educational platform for diabetes care, aiming to make management simpler, more guided, and more empowering for Filipino patients and caregivers.

Its latest “#KahitAnongTYPEmo” initiative, launched at SM North EDSA, underscores this commitment by uniting advocates, experts, and families navigating both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Why it matters

Diabetes affects about 4.7 million Filipino adults, and the number continues to rise. Accessible education and early detection remain crucial to slowing its growth and improving patient outcomes.

Driving the message home

The event offered a full suite of free services—from blood glucose checks to chronic kidney disease screening—while hosting expert-led discussions designed to break down the complexities of diabetes.

These interactive sessions aim to help families better understand risks, management routines, and lifestyle adjustments.

“Watsons believes that awareness and early detection are key to better diabetes care. Through #KahitAnongTYPEmo, we aim to provide a safe, supportive space where Filipinos can learn, ask questions, and take proactive steps toward better health,” Joweeh B. Liao, director of the health business unit, finance, property, and store development of Watsons Philippines, said in a press release on Nov. 20, 2025.

A stronger role for pharmacists

Recognizing how often patients rely on pharmacists for day-to-day health guidance, Watsons and Diabetes Philippines launched the Diabetes Educator Training Program.

The initiative equips Watsons pharmacists with deeper clinical knowledge, empowering them to offer credible advice and emotional support.

Beyond one-day advocacy

Watsons continues to scale health accessibility through its 1,200-plus stores, many of which operate late or round-the-clock, and through the Watsons App, which supports medicine delivery and in-store pickup. Its "Alagang Pangkalusugan" medical missions extend free consultations and screenings to underserved communities.

“At Watsons, we are focused on empowering people through education— helping them understand their risks, make informed choices, and take control of their lifestyle and condition,” said Sharon Decapia, senior assistant vice president for marketing, PR and sustainability. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S.
