  • iProov achieves top-tier CEN Level High rating
  • Independent lab blocks all injection attack attempts
  • Move addresses rising AI-generated deepfake threats
  • Aligns with global digital identity security standards

As AI-generated deepfakes grow more sophisticated, identity verification providers are racing to deploy stronger countermeasures against injection attacks and synthetic identity fraud.

London-based biometric security firm iProov said it has reached a new benchmark in defending against these threats, announcing its Dynamic Liveness technology is the first to achieve both Ingenium Level 4 and CEN/TS 18099 High certification for Injection Attack Detection.

The certification follows a 40-day independent evaluation by ISO/IEC 17025-accredited Ingenium Biometric Laboratories, where no successful injection attack method was established against the system.

As AI-generated deepfakes and injection attacks rapidly evolve, CEN/TS 18099 is helping organizations to move beyond vendor-led claims with accredited, standards-based benchmarks that provide real comparability and trust. | Contributed photo

Why it matters

Deepfakes powered by generative AI have evolved from novelty to national security risk, targeting banks, government portals and digital onboarding systems.

Injection attacks—where attackers feed manipulated video or synthetic imagery directly into verification systems—bypass traditional camera-based liveness checks.

CEN/TS 18099 provides a standardized benchmark for detecting such attacks, helping organizations compare vendor claims using accredited and industry-aligned testing rather than proprietary frameworks.

“In the age of deepfakes, biometric security must be proven, not promised,” Andrew Bud, founder and CEO of iProov, said in a press statement on Feb. 20, 2026.

“CEN/TS 18099 is the first true benchmark for injection attack detection, a requirement now included in NIST 800-63-4. Achieving Ingenium Level 4 through accredited testing sets iProov apart as the highest-assurance facial biometric provider independently validated today.”

By the numbers

During testing, iProov maintained a Bona Fide Presentation Classification Error Rate of 1.3 percent while blocking all attempted injection attacks.

That balance between high security and low user friction is emerging as a key differentiator as regulators tighten digital identity standards worldwide.

The bigger picture

Ingenium Level 4 builds on CEN High requirements with extended testing periods and more complex, highly weighted attack simulations.

The framework aligns with the latest NIST 800-63-4 Digital Identity Guidelines and supports phishing-resistant, injection-aware authentication models.

For enterprises and governments facing escalating AI-driven impersonation attempts, accredited standards such as CEN/TS 18099 are becoming essential countermeasures— shifting the industry from marketing claims to verifiable resilience.

iProov said its certification portfolio, which includes FIDO Face Verification and compliance with accessibility standards, positions the company to serve highly regulated sectors such as financial services, national identity programs and cross-border digital wallet initiatives.

As generative AI continues to lower the barrier for fraud, independent testing and standards-based validation may become the frontline defense in the global fight against deepfakes. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
