Tanco’s STI buying up land in Batangas and Alabang for new schools

Tycoon Eusebio Tanco’s STI Education Systems Holdings, one of the country’s biggest private school groups, is expanding its footprint with the acquisition of fresh sites in Batangas and Alabang.

In its latest financial report, STI revealed that it purchased a 10,000-square-meter property in Tanauan City, Batangas, planned for an STI Academic Center.

Additionally, it made a downpayment for a 3,266-square-meter parcel in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, also for a future STI school project.

Earnings surge

For its fiscal year ending June, STI reported a net income of ₱1.6 billion, an 84-percent increase from ₱873.8 million last year.

This growth was fueled by strong enrollment and cost management across its schools. Total enrollment for the school year 2023-2024 reached 119,543, up 27 percent from 94,312 in SY 2022-2023.

New enrollees increased by 35 percent to 55,982, up from 41,565 the previous year.

Enrollment in Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-regulated programs also rose 25 percent while Department of Education programs grew by 31 percent.

Gross revenues for STI Holdings surged by 38 percent to ₱4.7 billion, up from P3.4 billion in 2023. This growth was driven by a ₱1.2-billion increase in tuition and other fees, which reached ₱4.3 billion.

Expansion projects

STI recently completed the School of Basic Education building at STI West Negros University, along with new facilities at STI Ortigas-Cainta and STI Lipa, and expanded classrooms across its campuses to improve student and faculty spaces.

It initiated sustainability efforts by installing solar panels on multiple campuses.
