The four-level mall, located along Mayor Vitaliano Agan Avenue in Barangay Camino Nuevo, will add more than 42,000 square meters of gross leasable space to the city’s retail landscape. It builds on the momentum of SM City Mindpro, which opened in Zamboanga City in 2020.
“Zamboanga is a strong and growing market. This expansion allows us to broaden our footprint and respond to rising economic activity in the area,” SM Prime president Jeffrey C. Lim said in a statement.
Economic boost
Lim said the investment is expected to generate jobs, support local businesses, and help drive domestic tourism in the region.
The mall’s location offers accessibility, situated about 10 minutes from Zamboanga International Airport and five minutes from the city seaport, while remaining close to City Hall and the downtown area.
New features
SM City Zamboanga will introduce several first-in-the-city attractions, including what it said is the tallest scenic elevator in Mindanao equipped with LED displays, as well as a corner outdoor LED wall capable of 3D content.
It will also house the city’s first electric vehicle charging station and integrate sustainability initiatives such as solar panels, a Trash to Cash recycling program, and an e-waste collection facility.
Community focus
Designed for a diverse market, the mall will include a Muslim Prayer Room and an indoor garden with a skylight ceiling and aviary-themed Skyplaza.
It will be anchored by major tenants such as The SM Store, Mindpro Supermarket, Adidas, Fully Booked, JCO Reserve, and Gashapon from Japan.
Additional amenities include a modernized food court, upgraded Cyberzone, digital cinemas, and a Paw Park, positioning the mall as a key commercial and social hub in Zamboanga City. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
