In a statement, SM Investments Corp. said that since partnering with the conglomerate in 2008, NU has revitalized its mission, expanding from Metro Manila to provinces like Laguna, Batangas, and Bacolod.
The expansion focuses on convenient locations near residential and commercial centers, fostering community-focused educational environments.
Currently, NU operates 11 campuses, with new ones in Bacolod opening in August and Las Piñas and Cebu set for next year. By 2028, campuses in Pangasinan, Isabela, Davao, Iloilo, and Naga will also be established.
NU president and CEO, Dr. Renato Carlos Ermita, Jr., emphasized the institution's commitment to “Dynamic Filipinism”, offering programs in engineering, accounting, IT, tourism, nursing, and health sciences tailored to regional demands.
These programs are strategically relevant and aim to meet industry needs, he explained.
“The objective of NU is to produce productive individuals, professionals and entrepreneurs,” Ermita said. “We hope that they are able to fulfill their career and life objectives. Our motto is ‘Education that works.’ and education that works also means it's sustainable and relevant. But our mantra, as always directed by our chairman, Hans Sy, and the family, is quality, affordability and accessibility. That's why we keep our tuition fee very affordable and promote accessibility through the expansion.”
NU’s expansion to cities such as Bacolod, Las Piñas, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, and Naga not only enhances educational opportunities but also bolsters local economies by attracting skilled faculty passionate about nurturing local talent.
Ermita highlighted the importance of affordability and accessibility in NU’s expansion, ensuring education remains within reach for many Filipinos.
This initiative is expected to almost double NU's student population from 55,000 to 100,000 by 2027, further solidifying its role in national development.
