On October 16, 2024, OGP signed an agreement with the Geoscience Foundation, Inc. (GFI), granting P2.54 million to fund essential lab equipment for geology and mining courses. This contribution raises OGP’s total support to UP to P28.8 million since 2014.
To date, the company has donated P9.17 million for equipment and lab upgrades and P19.63 million for research, especially around its Didipio gold-copper mine in Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.
Management’s view
“Our country is abundant in both natural and human resources. To fully harness these assets, we need skilled geologists and engineers,” said Atty. Joan Adaci-Cattiling, OGP’s president and general manager for external affairs and social performance.
“Just as gold must be refined to reveal its true value, we must equip our students with the right tools to help them reach their fullest potential,” she added.
Enabling future geologists
“This financial assistance is crucial in supporting our students. With the increasing demand for advanced laboratory tools and equipment, which are costly, we have unfortunately had to turn away deserving students in the past,” said Dr. Leopoldo De Silva, Jr., GFI’s executive director.
“Now, this support enables us to equip our future geologists and engineers with the resources they need to succeed and contribute to the country’s growth,” he added.
