New Tanauan, Maragondon plants of Razon’s Prime Solar to power 84,000 homes

Prime Solar Solutions Corp., a subsidiary of billionaire Enrique Razon Jr.’s Prime Infra, has successfully energized its 128-megawatt photovoltaic plants in Tanauan, Batangas, and Maragondon, Cavite, marking a key step towards full commercial operations.

The Tanauan plant connected to the New Milagrosa 115-kilovolt (kV) switching station last October 1, while the Maragondon facility integrated into the 115-kV TMC-2 substation on October 10.

Both plants are now supplying clean energy to the power grid, with Prime Solar holding a 50-megawatt, 20-year power supply agreement with Meralco and delivering the surplus to the grid.

“Both the Tanauan and Maragondon plants recently commenced operations, advancing Prime Infra’s broader strategy of harnessing renewable energy sources to meet the growing demand for stable power supply,” Prime Infra president and CEO Guillaume Lucci said in a statement.

The facilities provide enough renewable energy to power over 84,000 households while displacing more than 100,000 tons of coal annually.

This project aligns with the Philippine government’s renewable energy targets of reaching a 35 percent share in the generation mix by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.

Meralco has issued the Final Certificates of Approval to Connect for both plants, submitted to the Energy Regulatory Commission as the final step for obtaining full commercial operation clearance.

“Reaching this milestone with Prime Solar highlights our ongoing commitment to creating a cleaner, sustainable future. Our investment in renewable energy not only meets immediate needs but also supports long-term growth with environmental sustainability at its core,” Lucci added.

This project is a first for Prime Solar and aligns with Prime Infra’s broader vision of addressing energy supply stability while advancing the transition to sustainable energy solutions.

Prime Infra said it continues to focus on critical infrastructure projects that support energy, water, and waste management solutions for long-term sustainability. — Ed: DLL
