The Marcos administration is reviving plans to privatize the Davao International Airport through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) structure, aiming to replicate the successful bidding of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the country’s busiest gateway.
“Davao Airport is the fourth-largest airport. We have a PPP process that is already ongoing,” Transportation Undersecretary Timothy John Batan said during a media briefing after President Marcos’ State of the Nation Address.
Batan said they were also working on 27 other airport projects with the help of advisers from the Asian Development Bank and International Finance Corp.
Davao-based tycoon Dennis A. Uy had previously offered to modernize the Mindanao gateway during the Duterte administration, but the project did not materialize.
