Vice Ganda’s GGV returns in September on GMA, iWant after six years

ABS-CBN Corp. is bringing Gandang Gabi Vice back in September, reviving one of its best-known entertainment franchises around Vice Ganda, one of the network’s biggest stars.

The comeback gives ABS-CBN another proven program to distribute across free television and streaming as it expands its partnership with former rival GMA Network Inc.

“GGV is coming back in September on GMA and iWant,” ABS-CBN chief operating officer for broadcast Cory Vidanes told shareholders on Wednesday.

The announcement puts a firm timetable on a revival that Vice Ganda had been teasing in recent months, including a January declaration that “magbabalik na’ng GGV.”

GGV ended its original nine-year run in March 2020, after growing from a show initially planned for just one season into one of ABS-CBN’s longest-running entertainment programs.

Vice Ganda described the ending at the time as a “mahabang commercial break” and promised that GGV would eventually return.

Its return on GMA underscores how much the relationship between the former television rivals has changed, with ABS-CBN increasingly producing content while tapping other networks and digital platforms to reach mass audiences.
