Trusted DZMM brand makes nostalgic return to stem losses

Prime Media Holdings Inc. is rebranding its radio venture with the Lopez family's ABS-CBN Corp., bringing back the familiar DZMM branding to bolster its financial viability.

Media Serbisyo Production Corp. (MSPC), the content producer and the 51-49 percent venture between Prime Media and ABS-CBN, will rebrand Teleradyo Serbisyo to DZMM Teleradyo.

Prime Media controls MSPC via subsidiary and national broadcast franchise holder Philippine Collective Media Corp., which also renamed DWPM Radyo 630 to DZMM Radyo Patrol 630.

The changes took place at 8:00 p.m. on May 29.

Business losses

MSPC is working to turn around its financial struggles after recording heavy losses over the past two years, InsiderPH reported earlier.

Prime Media and ABS-CBN entered into a venture two years ago to form MSPC after the latter’s franchise renewal bid was killed during the Duterte administration in 2020.

DZMM has a loyal fanbase

Even with a strong content lineup and hosted by familiar ABS-CBN anchors, the 2023 rebranding was unsuccessful in gaining traction.

DZMM has stronger brand recall and is seen as a key step to reconnecting with its loyal fans.

Prime Media is controlled by House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s RYM Business Management Corp.

The return of DZMM hopes to lure back listeners and viewers. The programs will continue to be led by anchors including Noli De Castro, Charo Santos, Doris Bigornia, and Alvin Elchico.
