At the recent APOS conference in Bali, Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy outlined plans to host OTT content from providers such as Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube in a central hub for easy access and for added value to its internet subscribers .
Converge, which recently sealed a strategy partnership with the Lopez family’s Sky Cable, is boosting its data infrastructure with the addition of two new data centers.
“This is a key part of our strategy. All the available content right now – news, entertainment, gaming, and sports – is part of the individual home niche. We believe we can take advantage of these to maintain that stickiness with our customers,” said Filipino Internet tycoon Dennis Anthony Uy, a speaker at the conference in the session on the “Future of Connectivity.”
“With our domestic and international fiber networks in place, we are well-positioned to bring customers the best digital experience,” said Uy, who also joined around 50 other business leaders in the region in the exclusive CEO forum.
New capacity coming online
The company is bullish on the growth potential as two international cable systems, SEA-H2X and Bifrost, will boost its capacity.
Uy noted that rising demand for services like Netflix and Disney+ is driving this expansion.
A study from the Trade Desk and Kantar showed that the Philippines’ OTT users stood at 36 million in 2021, accounting for over two billion hours spent on video streaming per month.
Converge has also entered the pay-TV space through Vision, offering 88 channels and access to apps like Disney+ and HBO Go.
