PLDT, Smart Communications, and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center launched PROTECTA Pilipinas to protect the country’s telecom infrastructure.

The initiative, sealed through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), promotes network resilience through disaster recovery, cybersecurity, and infrastructure monitoring.

It also encourages collaboration with government and industry stakeholders to ensure telecom security. This includes pushing for legal frameworks to prevent vandalism and theft of telecom assets.

“We are grateful to all the signatories to this MOU for agreeing to form the alliance, and for their support in our broader goal of ensuring the unhampered delivery of connectivity and safeguarding technology and telecommunication assets since they are considered critical infrastructure for nation building,” Atty. Roy Ibay, convenor of Protecta Pilipinas, vice president and head of regulatory at Smart and private sector board representative to the CICC.
