Milkshop International Co., Ltd. (Milksha), a 51-percent subsidiary of Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC),  has signed a deal to acquire a 70-percent stake in Tien Hsia Sheng Co. Ltd. (Moon Moon Food) for TWD 103.8 million (P184 million).

This strategic investment allows Milksha to expand its presence in Taiwan’s tea and wellness food segment while tapping into the global beverage market.

Moon Moon Food, renowned as Taiwan’s “Leading Brand in Chinese Wellness Soups” and a Michelin Bib Gourmand honoree for seven consecutive years, currently operates 13 profitable outlets in Taiwan and recently opened its first international branch in Singapore in 2024.

Jollibee expands overseas footprint

According to the Michelin guide, the family-run shop is known for its healthy home-style cooking, with signature chicken soup made fresh daily using free-range chicken simmered for hours. Their glutinous oil rice and oyster dishes, featuring fresh Dongshi oysters, are customer favorites that often sell out quickly.

Deal rationale

“This strategic move reinforces Milksha’s position as a leader in the Tea segment in Taiwan by accretively integrating Moon Moon Food’s resources and complementary offerings to enhance its ability to meet evolving customer needs, further strengthening scale and valuation, and expanding the consumer base of Milksha,” Jollibee said in a stock exchange filing.

Yung-Cheng Lai, Moon Moon Food founder and CEO, will retain ownership of the 30 percent minority interest in Moon Moon Food.
