INSIDER INFO: Rockwell gave away luxe SUVs, but winners thought it was a prank

A pair of lucky winners found themselves with an unexpected prize: two luxury SUVs raffled off by the upscale Power Plant Mall of Rockwell Land. Too good to be true? They certainly thought so.

The winner of the P7.7-million Lexus GX Overtrail in Rockwell’s Christmas car raffle initially thought it was a scam, dropping the call and ignoring the happy news, which was being streamed live online.

We’re told the winner, who belongs to one of the leading business families in the Philippines, had to be convinced by a trusted individual before agreeing to take the call.

She then graciously accepted the elegant desert gold SUV, which had been on display at Rockwell Land’s Power Plant Mall for the holiday season.

The second lucky winner, who bagged a metallic beige Land Rover Defender 110 that’s also worth at least P7 million, similarly did not take the live call. This was despite repeated attempts by the program host.

Cybercriminals are definitely more aggressive than ever. And while it’s unfortunate we can't take good news at face value anymore, it's also reassuring that Filipinos are staying cautious, especially when surprises seem too good to be true.
