Logistics challenges, industry trends take center stage at 4th Visayas Shipping Conference

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with  PortCalls, is set to host the 4th Visayas Shipping Conference and Exhibit at the City Sports Club Cebu on Feb. 27, 2024.

Themed “Visayas Trade Logistics: Navigating a Competitive Landscape,” the event will focus on key logistics challenges, supply chain improvements, and the Visayas region’s growing role as a logistics, trade, and investment hub, the DTI said in a statement.

Regulatory updates

DTI Region 7 will take center stage, with Undersecretary Mary Jean Pacheco discussing “Driving Supply Chain Efficiency/New Rules in Forwarding”, offering insights into regulatory updates and strategies to enhance supply chain operations. 

Meanwhile, DTI Regional Director Ma. Elena Arbon will present findings from recent focus group discussions (FGDs) with key industry players in Central Visayas, identifying pain points and solutions to improve trade logistics.

The conference will also feature economic outlook discussions, with experts weighing in on market trends and infrastructure developments, including Cebu’s sea and air port capacity. 

Trade facilitation, best practices

Representatives from the Bureau of Customs and private sector leaders will share trade facilitation initiatives and best practices to optimize logistics efficiency.

An exhibit area will showcase innovative logistics solutions from companies like e-KONEK Pilipinas Inc., RAF International Forwarding Phils., and Barkota. 

The event, backed by the Philippine Multimodal Transport and Logistics Association, Inc., expects to attract at least 150 industry executives, creating prime networking opportunities for logistics and trade professionals.
