This move strengthens Iloilo port as a key trade hub for Western Visayas, the global cargo port operator said in a statement.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by local officials and ICTSI executives, marked the cranes’ launch. Each Konecranes-manufactured crane has a 46-meter reach and can lift up to 100 tons, boosting VCT’s capacity for containerized, bulk, and general cargo.
Management’s view
“These new cranes, the largest and most modern on Panay Island, represent our commitment to pursue a culture of efficiency and advancement,” said Christian R. Gonzalez, ICTSI’s executive vice president.
“The flexibility offered by these [mobile harbor cranes] will allow us to deliver an immense improvement in service to our clients. By providing state-of-the-art resources, we are enabling our people to achieve results beyond the ordinary for the greater good of our stakeholders and the local economy,” he added.
Boosting domestic, international competitiveness
Iloilo City Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon said the new cranes will significantly boost Iloilo’s economy by opening local industries to national and international markets:
“With VCT’s increased operational efficiency, greater cargo handling capacity, and enhanced connectivity, this will allow our businesses to meet the rising demand of our thriving local economy and bolster our competitiveness in national and international trade.”
Beyond the port: Community impact
At the same time, the ICTSI Foundation, the social responsibility arm of the company, is deepening its community engagement in Iloilo City.
Its initiatives focus on youth development, environmental sustainability, and providing social support.
