INSIDER INFO: MVP’s first Hollywood movie is 'The Last Resort'

Tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) is entering his Hollywood era, backing a new romantic comedy called The Last Resort, which will be set in the Philippines.

An article by Deadline named the PLDT and Meralco boss as the film’s executive producer, meaning he’s the Manny—we mean money—guy, apart from other responsibilities in the movie's development. 

It will be produced by Ernesto “Bong” Sta. Maria Jr. and Raja Collins and directed by Donald Petrie, whose past work includes Miss Congeniality and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Meanwhile, Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich will headline the cast. This will make for some fun off-camera interactions with MVP, a self-confessed Trekkie (Star Trek fan).

We’re told The Last Resort’s production is separate from MVP’s local film ventures under MediaQuest Group.

It’s also not his first attempt at breaking into Hollywood, according to insiders. 

A few years ago, he was among the tycoons interested in funding a Philippines-based film led by Crazy Rich Asians writer Kevin Kwan, but the project did not push through.
