Insider Spotlight
The 244-hectare central business district in Alabang has been built around principles that mirror today’s widely discussed “15-minute city” concept, where residents can live, work, and access essential services within a connected environment.
Why it matters
That vision recently earned global recognition after Filinvest Alabang Inc. became the first Philippine developer to receive honors at the FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards, with Filinvest City winning Gold in the Master Plan category and the Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel securing Gold in the Purpose-Built category.
The awards were received by Filinvest Alabang president and CEO Catherine Ilagan during ceremonies held in Vienna on June 11.
The big picture
Presented by the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), the World Prix d’Excellence is regarded as one of the most prestigious programs in global real estate, drawing finalists from more than 60 countries.
The competition evaluates projects that demonstrate excellence in design, sustainability, functionality, and long-term community impact.
By the numbers
Filinvest City spans 244 hectares and is described as the first and only LEED- and BERDE-certified central business district in the Philippines. Its masterplan links residential communities, corporate offices, institutions, and lifestyle destinations through an interconnected park system.
Contemplative space
The Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel, located within River Park, was recognized for its architecture and civic purpose. Designed by Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP Architects, the chapel serves as a contemplative space within the commercial district and follows an earlier distinction as the sole Philippine winner at the 2025 ULI Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence.
What they’re saying
“This recognition affirms our vision of creating a city built around people and designed for the future,” Ilagan said in a press statement. “To be recognized on the world stage is both an honor and a proud moment for the Philippines,” she added.
Bottom line
The twin victories underscore how Philippine-led developments are increasingly competing on the global stage through long-term planning, sustainability, and purpose-driven design. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
