Robinsons Retail core earnings rise 4.3% to P2.8B on healthy first-half sales

The Gokongwei family-led Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc.’s core earnings climbed 4.3 percent year-on-year to P2.8 billion in the first half of 2025, driven by stronger sales and tighter cost management.

Second-quarter core earnings rose 3.9 percent to P1.5 billion, supported by election- and back-to-school-related spending and easing inflation, which boosted both essential and discretionary categories.

Managements’ view

“The sustained recovery in basket sizes, along with our continued focus on improving assortment has enabled us to accelerate growth and exceed our full-year SSSG target in the second quarter,” said Stanley Co, president and CEO of Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc.

“We intend to build on this momentum by further expanding our store network and driving operational efficiencies in the coming months,” he added.

Non-core earnings decline

Attributable net income, however, fell 13.2 percent to P1.5 billion for the quarter, pulled down by higher losses from minority investments and rising interest costs.

The company’s first-half attributable profit plunged 66.9 percent to P2.3 billion, largely due to the one-time gain from the Bank of the Philippine Islands–Robinsons Bank merger booked in early 2024.

Essential products fuel sales

Consolidated net sales jumped 5.9 percent to P50.7 billion in the second quarter, with a 4.8 percent blended same-store sales growth.

Food, Drugstore, and Department Store formats were the biggest growth drivers, lifting first-half sales to P98.5 billion, up 5.1 percent, with same-store growth at 3.9 percent.

Operating income climbed 7.4 percent to P2.4 billion in the quarter on the back of supplier backing, improved product mix, and better inventory management, bringing first-half operating income to P4.3 billion, up 5.2 percent.

As of June 30, 2025, Robinsons Retail operated 2,471 stores, including 763 Food Stores, 1,145 Drugstores, 51 Department Stores, 228 DIY Stores, and 284 Specialty Stores, along with 2,116 franchised TGP outlets.
