Metro Retail broadens Eastern Visayas presence with Biliran store

Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) has expanded its presence in Eastern Visayas with the opening of Metro Naval in Biliran Province, as the retailer continues to grow its footprint in regional markets outside major urban centers.

Located in the capital municipality of Naval, the new store brings together Metro Market, Metro Department Store, and Metro Home Lifestyle under one roof, offering residents easier access to groceries, fashion, household items, and other essential products.

Metro Naval is the company's 83rd store nationwide, 65th location, and twelfth store in Eastern Visayas, underscoring MRSGI's strategy of strengthening its presence in underserved and growing provincial markets.

Regional growth

The launch was led by MRSGI president and COO Joel Orense, alongside Biliran Governor Rogelio J. Espina, Naval Mayor Gretchen Stephanie M. Espina, Vice Mayor Nick Arthur V. Parilla, and other local stakeholders.

Orense said the new store reflects the company's commitment to supporting communities while expanding access to modern retail services.

“Metro Naval represents our commitment to growing alongside the communities we serve,” he said.

Local impact

According to MRSGI, the new store is expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen partnerships with local suppliers, vendors, and community stakeholders.

“As we expand our footprint across the country, we want to ensure that families in provinces like Biliran have access to quality and affordable retail options while also creating opportunities that contribute to local economic growth,” Orense added.

The company said the expansion forms part of its broader goal of making modern retail more accessible to consumers in regional areas while contributing to long-term local development.

With Metro Naval now operational, MRSGI continues to pursue growth opportunities beyond key metropolitan areas, banking on rising consumer demand and economic activity in provincial communities. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
