The expansion includes new sports facilities, international fitness concepts, pickleball centers and a major theater development in Cebu, with several projects scheduled to open between late 2026 and 2028.
RSL will adopt a "glocal" strategy that combines international sports and leisure concepts with local consumer preferences, aiming to make recreational activities more accessible to Filipino communities.
"The world is full of exciting ways to play, compete and recharge. We at Robinsons Land want to bring more of these experiences within reach of every Filipino and make them feel right at home here," said Robinsons Land chief strategist and RSL head Ramon Rivero.
New growth opportunities
The business unit forms part of RLC's broader strategy to strengthen its developments by introducing recreational facilities and entertainment destinations that encourage repeat visits and customer engagement.
"For 46 years, Robinsons Land has built homes, workplaces, malls and hotels around the changing needs of Filipinos," said RLC president and CEO Mybelle V. Aragon-GoBio in a statement.
"Sports and leisure give us another way to make sure that those developments become a part of every Filipino. We want our destinations to offer meaningful experiences worth making time for, with the quality and consistency that communities have come to expect from us," she added.
RSL plans to maximize existing properties by converting rooftops and open spaces into sports courts and recreational facilities.
The company is targeting a broad market, including recreational players, fitness enthusiasts, competitive athletes and older adults seeking active lifestyles.
Sports facilities
Among its upcoming projects is GX Sports at Robinsons Galleria, which is scheduled to open to the public on Dec. 7.
The facility will feature two pickleball courts and an official HYROX Training Zone under the HYROX Training Club X concept.
The training zone will have race-standard equipment, a prescribed layout and structured programs designed for HYROX, an international fitness competition combining running and functional workouts.
RSL will also introduce its Run Crew at the AIA Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Manila on Nov. 29, 2026.
Three GX Sports In Motion events are planned for 2027 to encourage wider participation in sports and recreational activities.
Pickleball expansion
RLC is also strengthening its presence in the growing pickleball market through new facilities at its Bridgetowne development.
Helios Beta, a 14-court facility operated by Kosmas Athletic Ventures Corp. (KAVC), will host the PPA Asia 500 Manila Open 2027, bringing an international pickleball tournament to the estate.
A separate 25-court Helios Pickleball Center will also be developed through a joint venture between RLC and KAVC.
KAVC has engaged Johns Design & Consulting, the consultancy of professional pickleball players Collin and Ben Johns, to help plan and design the facility and develop its event programming.
Additional pickleball courts are planned at selected Robinsons malls and office developments, extending the sport's reach to more communities.
Cebu entertainment hub
Beyond sports, RSL is expanding into live entertainment with the planned opening of the approximately 1,850-seat NUSTAR Grand Theater in Cebu in 2028.
The facility is expected to accommodate major performances, cultural productions and other entertainment events, strengthening Cebu's capacity to host large-scale productions.
"NUSTAR Grand Theater will be the largest entertainment and cultural venue in the VisMin Region," Rivero said.
The company is also evaluating opportunities in golf and sports simulators, padel courts, flexible entertainment spaces and wellness facilities.
These investments will depend on market demand, site suitability and the potential to attract repeat customers.
Long-term strategy
RSL's expansion supports RLC's premiumization strategy, which seeks to make its properties more attractive through specialized facilities, new experiences and stronger partnerships.
The business unit intends to maintain consistent standards for quality, service and safety while tailoring its offerings to the needs of individual communities.
Through the initiative, RLC aims to strengthen its position in the growing sports and leisure market while creating additional reasons for consumers to visit and spend time at its developments. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
