Building on their earlier collaboration to modernize sports governance and promote financial inclusion, Maya will support the upcoming Batang Pinoy event by helping participants easily open their own financial accounts.
The initiative will introduce young athletes to secure and accessible digital banking tools that can empower them in managing their everyday needs.
“Supporting PSC’s grassroots programs allows us to engage with the sports community in a meaningful way,” Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Group president and Maya Bank co-founder, said in a statement.
“Batang Pinoy gives us a great opportunity to connect with young athletes and help them take their first steps toward digital financial access.”
Strengthening grassroots sports development
This renewed partnership builds on Maya and PSC’s earlier efforts to digitalize the allowance distribution for national athletes—a move that replaced manual disbursement systems with faster, more secure, and transparent digital platforms.
With digital financial accounts, athletes can now receive their allowances instantly and manage their funds independently, aligning with PSC’s goal of supporting athlete welfare both on and off the field.
“We’re grateful for Maya’s continued support for Batang Pinoy,” said PSC Chair John Patrick Gregorio.
“By enabling the electronic distribution of allowances, Maya helps us provide athletes and delegates with a faster, safer, and more convenient experience—so they can focus on what matters most: competing and growing.”
Championing inclusion and growth
Launched in 1998, Batang Pinoy is PSC’s flagship grassroots program promoting inclusive participation for young athletes—including out-of-school youth and those from marginalized sectors.
The 2025 edition will be held in General Santos City from Oct. 25 to 30, drawing over 15,000 participants competing in 27 sports disciplines, from aquatics and athletics to martial arts and team sports. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
