Ramon Ang assumed the role of chair and CEO while the younger Ang became Petron's president and chief operating officer, following the company's annual stockholders' meeting on Thursday.
“He’s going to be more involved,” Ang told InsiderPH on Thursday.
The move places younger Ang at the center of one of the Philippines’ most strategically important companies as Petron navigates volatile oil prices, Middle East tensions, and growing concerns over energy security.
Now in his mid 40s, John Paul Ang has steadily accumulated senior leadership positions across the broader San Miguel empire, spanning power, food, infrastructure, and cement.
Two years ago, he also rose to the role of president and chief operating officer San Miguel Corp., the parent firm of Petron.
He also serves as president and CEO of San Miguel Food and Beverage, vice chair of SMC Global Power, and a director of Top Frontier Investment Holdings.
His operating background goes back to Eagle Cement, where he led the company’s expansion before its eventual consolidation into SMC.
While Ramon Ang remains firmly in control of the broader San Miguel group, the Petron reshuffle creates a clearer split between strategy and day-to-day operations.
