An HMO, or health maintenance organization, provides prepaid access to a network of doctors, clinics and hospitals, reducing what members may need to pay out of pocket when they seek care.
“For many Filipinos, healthcare concerns are also financial concerns,” Intellicare president Jeremy Matti said in a statement.
“Every healthcare claim paid represents a member receiving care, support, and peace of mind,” he added.
Claims rise with the market
Claims across the industry rose 13.62 percent to P41.23 billion, with Intellicare accounting for nearly 23 percent of the total.
Its payments covered consultations, diagnostic procedures, treatments, emergency care and hospital stays across its provider network.
Scale behind the payouts
Intellicare generated P12.57 billion in first-half revenue, meaning its claims payments were equivalent to roughly three-fourths of revenue.
The company also held P21.88 billion in assets as of June, or about 22 percent of the HMO industry’s total.
