The leadership reshuffle extends to the parent company PLDT with the appointment of Menardo 'Butch' Jimenez Jr. as chief operating officer of the country's biggest integrated telecommunications provider.
Like Martirez, the much-deserved promotion of Jimenez, whose family partly owns No. 1 TV broadcaster GMA Network, has yet to be announced. Insiders expect this to happen in the coming days or weeks.
Jimenez, a PLDT veteran since 2001, has held various leadership roles in corporate communications, retail, fixed-line, and human resources over the past two decades. This also makes him one of the most well-rounded executives in PLDT's professional bench.
He's also one of the company's most dependable executives, having built a steady reputation as someone ready to take on assignments 'where he is needed.'
As COO, Jimenez will mainly oversee PLDT's broadband and fixed-line business, while Martirez will focus on Smart. It's an added bonus that both executives had a good and friendly working relationship before Martirez left in 2006.
