INSIDER INFO: Food kiosk king turned turnaround prince eyes new acquisition

Businessman Lester Yu found success by building businesses from the ground up, eventually establishing the country’s largest food kiosk group, Fruitas Holdings.

In recent years, he has shifted his focus to reviving struggling companies with strong brand recognition.

Food industry insiders said he's continuing his turnaround era with another acquisition. This time, the prospective target is a more than two-decade-old lechon manok (roast chicken) chain.

We understand this company was once much larger but had to downsize significantly due to fierce competition with major roasting giants and business plans that didn’t pan out.

This follows Yu’s acquisition of Ling Nam restaurant and Sugarhouse.

Since his entry, Ling Nam has seen rapid expansion, having grown its store footprint plus another six  restaurants in the pipeline. Sugarhouse is also set to open its third outlet, located in Quezon City.

Yu’s past success in other ventures suggests this potential deal could be roasted to perfection.
