Insider Spotlight
From July 20 to Aug. 20, 2026, eligible passengers paying their train fares through GCash Commute QR will receive cashback ranging from 20 percent to 30 percent for rides on LRT-2 and eligible MRT-3 trips. The cashback will be credited directly to users' GCash e-wallets based on scheduled payout dates.
The big picture
The promotion aims to accelerate the adoption of digital fare payments while making daily commuting more affordable for users. Commuters with fully verified and active GCash accounts are eligible to participate by paying for their rides through the Commute QR feature during the promotional period.
“Innovation is most meaningful when it removes everyday friction and makes essential services more accessible. With GCash Commute QR, we're making cashless commuting simpler.” GCash VP and head of innovation Ferdie Perez said.
GCash said the initiative is part of its broader effort to expand digital payment acceptance across essential services, including public transportation, as it promotes more convenient and accessible commuting options for Filipinos.
Why it matters
The company is positioning digital fare payments as an alternative to cash transactions while providing financial incentives for commuters to adopt the platform. Under the promotion, LRT-2 passengers can receive 20 percent cashback on eligible rides.
Meanwhile, new GCash Commute QR users traveling on MRT-3 can enjoy 30 percent cashback on their first three rides until Aug. 20, 2026.
"This cashback promo is a way to help invite more commuters to experience the ease of using digital fare payments and brings added value on their everyday journeys," Perez said.
GCash said it will continue working with transport partners to expand cashless payment options across the country's public transportation network, supporting wider adoption of digital payments in everyday commuting. —Ramon C. Nocon| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
