BPI–SingX deal drives fast, secure remittances for OFWs

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has partnered with SingX Singapore Pte. Ltd., a leading digital payment services provider in Asia, to give Overseas Filipinos in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia a smarter, faster, and more secure way to send money home — instantly and around the clock.

The tie-up expands BPI’s remittance footprint in key global hubs, giving Filipinos working overseas a seamless, fully digital channel for transferring funds directly to BPI accounts in the Philippines.

The big picture

Remittances remain a major lifeline for millions of Filipino families and a significant contributor to the national economy. As of 2024, an estimated 800,000 Filipinos reside across Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia — many of whom provide regular financial support to loved ones back home.

What they’re saying

“At BPI, we recognize the hard work and dedication of Filipinos abroad in supporting their families,”  Joel De Vera, head of strategy, products & support group for institutional banking at BPI, said in a press statement.

“Through our partnership with SingX, we reaffirm our commitment to making banking and remittance services more accessible, cost-effective, and convenient.”

De Vera added that SingX’s innovative technology, broad international presence, and emphasis on customer experience make it a strategic partner. “Their platform allows Filipinos abroad to send money home seamlessly through a fully digital experience, aligned with BPI’s commitment to digitalization,” he said.

How it works

Through SingX’s platform, users can transfer funds directly to their beneficiaries’ BPI accounts within minutes. The process involves:

  • Sign up via the SingX app or website
  • Verify identity using SingPass or manual document upload
  • Add a recipient by entering bank details
  • Check rates and fees before sending
  • Make payment using bank transfer or PayNow

Transactions have no transfer limits,  with a minimum fee starting at S$3.75.  Payments to Pag-IBIG and SSS are free of charge.   Users need only a one-time verification before they can start sending money.

The bottom line

“Remittances play a vital role in strengthening Filipino families and the national economy,” De Vera said. “By leveraging partnerships like this, BPI ensures Overseas Filipinos have modern solutions that make every transaction simpler, faster, and more meaningful.” —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
