Insider Spotlight

  • Philippine rum maker sharpens premium positioning globally
  • Portfolio consistency drives repeat wins across categories
  • Aging, blending anchor differentiation vs. global peers

Tanduay is doubling down on craftsmanship and portfolio consistency as it expands its global footprint, leveraging premiumization to stand out in a crowded international spirits market.

The strategy is gaining validation after multiple podium finishes at a recent international spirits competition, where five of its premium rums earned top honors. The results underscore how uniform quality across variants—not just flagship labels—can build brand equity abroad.

“These awards demonstrate that Tanduay’s production standards are consistent across our different rum profiles and our strict quality control,” ” Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay international business development manager, said in a press statement.

“We thank the judges for recognizing our discipline in producing rums that live up to international standards, and we raise a toast to excellence in Philippine rum-making,”Sumang said.

Tanduay continues to show a steady commitment across its products that meets rigorous global standards. This was reflected in the recent International Spirits Competition presented by Enthusiast Report Magazine, where five of its premium rums were awarded top honors. | Contributed photo

Why it matters

Global spirits buyers increasingly favor brands that deliver reliable quality across price tiers. Tanduay’s sweep—from Double Gold to Silver—signals depth, not just standout SKUs, strengthening its case with distributors and retailers.

The big picture

Tanduay’s edge lies in blending and aging discipline. Its Double Rum combines 16- and five-year-old stocks with additional barrel aging, while other variants lean on ex-bourbon maturation and balanced flavor profiles.

This positions the brand within the premium sipping and mixable segments simultaneously—key for scaling internationally.

Between the lines

Consistency is a supply chain story as much as a branding one. Maintaining flavor profiles across geographies requires tight control over raw materials, distillation, and barrel management—areas where legacy producers can outperform newer entrants.

What’s next

As Tanduay widens distribution, expect more focus on storytelling around heritage and process, paired with targeted pushes in cocktail culture markets.

The company says its growth abroad will remain anchored on maintaining the same quality “wherever they are in the world,” reinforcing a long-term play built on trust and repeatability. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
