Small business owner Ethel Jallorina was among them. She attended NTC for elementary and high school in the 1990s, and when she transferred to a local public school for a few years, she immediately noticed a difference in teaching methods.
“The teaching at NTC is excellent. They’re truly advanced.” Ethel says.
This commitment to excellence is why she and her cousins have sent their children to NTC. Several of them have even graduated with honors, continuing the family’s tradition of academic excellence.
A school that feels like family
Founded in 1928, NTC began as a training institution for teachers. Over the decades, it has grown into one of the Philippines’ leading education providers, producing well-rounded professionals in multiple fields.
For Fidel Soriano, who has been with NTC since 1990, the Jallorina family is a testament to the school’s culture of community and belonging. Soriano, who was once Ethel’s Grade 7 adviser, believes this culture is one of NTC’s greatest strengths.
"As a person, I feel that I am truly a member of a family, and that is also how our students feel," he shares.
Whether through innovative teaching methods, affordability, or industry-aligned programs, NTC continues to evolve while maintaining the trust of generations.
Shift from tradition to innovation
NTC’s curriculum has transformed over the years, moving beyond traditional memorization-based learning. Instead, it now focuses on experiential and interdisciplinary education, equipping students with the skills to think critically, solve problems, and adapt to industry demands.
Some of NTC’s forward-thinking programs include:
Gamified Mathematics – Students learn complex math concepts by building virtual cities, making learning interactive and practical.
Micro-Credentials & Certifications – NTC offers specialized courses in digital marketing, data analysis, and emerging technologies, preparing students for in-demand careers.
NTC SmartClass – A homeschooling program designed for students who thrive in flexible learning environments while still receiving a quality education.
Partnerships with APEC Schools – In 2023, NTC merged with APEC Schools, expanding access to constructivist learning, an approach that fosters deep understanding and real-world application of knowledge.
"In my 33 years with NTC, I have witnessed its adaptability to the changing needs of our students," says Soriano. "The institution remains committed to responding proactively—introducing new programs, offering new courses, and integrating emerging technology into classrooms."
Shaping generations, one student at a time
The Jallorina family’s story is just one of many that illustrate NTC’s lasting impact on students and families across generations.
By continually evolving its teaching methods, embracing modern technology, and prioritizing affordable and high-quality education, NTC ensures that its graduates don’t just earn degrees—they become industry leaders and community changemakers.
Education is the greatest legacy any institution can offer, and as NTC approaches its 100th anniversary, its light continues to shine—one student, one family, and one generation at a time. — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
