Why it matters

The CFO serves as the government agency responsible for promoting and protecting the interests and welfare of non-resident Filipinos, including permanent migrants, dual citizens, Filipino spouses and partners of foreign nationals, and their descendants.

According to a company release, the partnership forms part of the agency’s broader effort to modernize service delivery and expand digital and cashless transactions across its operations.

“More than six million non-resident Filipinos around the world belong to the Commission’s constituency. Through our programs and services, we seek to help them maintain strong ties with the Philippines and encourage their continued participation in national development,” Commission on Filipinos Overseas Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II said.

“This partnership with Maya will help us make our services more efficient, accessible and convenient while opening opportunities to further engage non-resident Filipinos as partners in national development. Beyond payments, we see potential to explore other ways of helping Filipinos overseas strengthen their economic ties with the country,” Ang added.

The bigger picture

The partnership aligns with the government’s push to improve ease of doing business through digitalization while broadening access to financial services.

“By supporting the CFO’s digitalization efforts, we are helping make transactions simpler and more convenient for Filipinos overseas and their families,”  Maya Group president and Maya Bank co-founder Shailesh Baidwan said.

“This supports the government's ease of doing business agenda while connecting people to digital financial tools that can improve financial health,” Baldwan said.

Maya said the initiative builds on its broader work with government agencies and public sector institutions, where it provides digital payment infrastructure to make transactions more accessible and efficient.

The agreement also complements Maya’s efforts to support overseas Filipinos and their families.

Earlier this year, the company introduced rebates on ATM withdrawals and InstaPay transfers, along with cashback offers on mobile load purchases for beneficiaries in the Philippines. As an integrated digital bank and payments platform, Maya continues to expand services aimed at helping users save, pay, and manage their finances more effectively. — Princess Daisy C.
