The renewable energy supply agreement covers the Insular Life Corporate Centre (ILCC) in Alabang and the Insular Life Makati (ILM) Building.
This move reinforces InLife’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda to promote sustainable operations and reduce carbon emissions across its real estate portfolio.
The transition to renewable power began in March 2025 at ILCC and is set to commence in June 2025 at ILM.
At ILCC, the shift is implemented through the Retail Electricity Supply (RES) market under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework. This allows large consumers to choose their electricity providers and tap into renewable energy.
During daytime operations, ILCC will run on 100 percent renewable energy, while nighttime supply will draw from a mixed energy portfolio.
The shift is expected to cut 1,746 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, comparable to eliminating 6.9 million kilometers of vehicle travel or planting 26,195 trees over a 25–35 year period.
Meanwhile, ILM will be powered exclusively by renewables through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) in line with the Renewable Energy Act of 2008. This transition is projected to save 2,154 tons of CO₂ per year, equal to 8.6 million kilometers of car travel or planting 32,311 trees.
“InLife’s transition to renewable energy and adherence to globally recognized standards in environmentally safe infrastructure are efforts to lead by example and drive meaningful change towards a sustainable future,” said Hector A. Caunan, InLife EVP and chief property and investment officer.
Both buildings also boast leading green building certifications. ILM holds a LEED Gold Certification and was awarded the WELL Health-Safety Rating in April 2024, recognizing its commitment to sustainability and occupant wellness.
ILCC earned the EDGE Certification from the Philippine Green Building Initiative in April 2025, affirming a minimum 20 percent reduction in energy, water, and embodied carbon compared to local standards.
Meanwhile, InLife Cebu Business Centre (ILCBC) continues to receive International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC), certifying its use of green power. It also transitioned to an energy-efficient air conditioning system in 2024.
InLife is now extending its sustainability push by installing solar panels in provincial branches to reduce energy costs and further its clean energy transition. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
