ACEN, GCash push rooftop solar in Northern Philippines with P1,300 plan

The Ayala Group’s ACEN and its fintech arm GCash are making a big push into rooftop solar, betting lower monthly payments will unlock mass adoption, starting with a partnership with the Ilocos Norte government.

The program allows households to install solar systems for as low as P1,300 a month, removing the heavy upfront cost that has long limited adoption.

Financing will be handled by Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash, through its GGives installment feature, opening access even to users without traditional bank credit.

“This initiative reflects how strong collaboration between the public and private sectors can bring the benefits of renewable energy directly to communities,” ACEN CEO John Eric Francia said in a statement on Wednesday.

Households can also benefit from net metering, allowing excess power to be exported to the grid in exchange for bill credits.

For GCash, the move creates a new loan category tied to household energy use while deepening engagement within its platform.

“What makes this framework meaningful is that the financing is designed to be accessible for all,” said Fuse Financing president and CEO Tony Isidro, noting the simplified application process and wider reach.

The rollout will begin in pilot areas including Laoag, Dingras, and Pagudpud, with the model positioned for potential expansion if uptake proves strong.
