SHDA convention to push housing policy, partnerships forward

The Subdivision and Housing Developers Association (SHDA) is bringing government and industry leaders together as it seeks to turn housing-sector discussions into policies and partnerships that can address development bottlenecks.

The 34th SHDA National Developers Convention, carrying the theme “Elevate: Sustaining Progress through Collaboration and Strategic Housing Innovations,” will be held at Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The two-day gathering will focus on low- and mid-market housing development.

Housing roadmap

Housing developers continue to navigate regulatory processes, financing requirements and infrastructure considerations that influence the delivery of new homes. SHDA said the convention will provide a platform for government agencies, developers, financial institutions and other stakeholders to discuss possible solutions.

Among the major topics is a review of the Housing Roadmap co-developed by a University of Asia and the Pacific research team, SHDA and other housing organizations. Sessions will also cover renewable energy, changing homebuyer preferences, taxation, land conversion, water access, electricity, telecommunications and solid waste management.

Practical strategies

“As in the past conventions, the 2026 SHDA National Developers Convention aims to bring together key sectors shaping the housing ecosystem, government, private developers, finance, and urban planning, among others, to ensure we remain responsive to the evolving preferences of tomorrow’s homebuyers,” SHDA assistant corporate secretary and 2026 Convention overall chair Clarissa De Joya said in a press statement.

“We aim for every delegate to leave with practical strategies to help them navigate the processes involved in property development,” she added. 

SHDA chair Francis Richmond Z. Villegas also underscored the group’s policy role.

“The convention reflects SHDA's continuing role as a collaborative partner in shaping policies that support a sustainable housing industry for Filipinos,” Villegas said.

Convention resolutions

The convention will culminate in Convention Resolutions consolidating recommendations from the discussions. These are expected to guide government and private-sector stakeholders in developing policy and program directions addressing housing-industry challenges.

SHDA has 350 members across eight regional chapters and says its member developers build 80 percent of homes produced annually in the Philippines. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
