This public-private partnership aims to enhance foundational literacy and numeracy skills through innovative educational tools and training.
The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding, brings together Ayala Corp., Ayala Foundation, Globe Telecom, and iPeople — the Ayala Group’s joint venture with the Yuchengco Group. iPeople-affiliated schools, including the National Teachers College and University of Nueva Caceres, will spearhead the program rollout.
"DepEd is proud and grateful to stand shoulder to shoulder with these education partners," said Education Secretary Sonny Angara. This collaboration, he said, underscores the potential of public-private partnerships to address enduring challenges in Philippine education.
Key initiatives include teacher training programs, the deployment of Khan Academy’s learning platform in Ayala-affiliated schools, and provision of digital infrastructure through Globe Telecom. The partnership also offers internships and fellowships to enrich learning experiences for students and educators alike.
Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine, president and CEO of Khan Academy Philippines, emphasized the transformative potential of this collaboration. “By joining forces with the Ayala Group alongside the Department of Education, we are paving the way for innovative and inclusive learning solutions that empower Filipino students and educators alike.”
Fernando Zobel de Ayala, board member of Ayala Corp. and chair of Ayala Foundation, highlighted the group’s commitment to education. “We are delighted to support DepEd and Khan Academy in this very important Public–Private Partnership initiative to utilize the latest education technology to deliver high education to many Filipino learners in public and private schools.”
