The initiative accompanies the rollout of AIA Critical Protect Plus and BPI AIA MultiCare Protect, two health insurance products designed to address rising healthcare costs and growing demand for broader critical illness coverage.
Both plans allow policyholders to claim benefits for up to three major critical illnesses, while also covering early-stage conditions and offering protection that can extend until age 100.
Why it matters
The partnership reflects how insurers are increasingly tying new product launches to community health initiatives, extending their role beyond financial protection to support healthcare access and patient welfare.
Under the program, AIA Philippines and BPI AIA will make donations to the Kythe Foundation in the name of policyholders who purchase the new insurance products.
The contributions will help fund medical care, psychosocial services, therapeutic play, caregiver support, emergency assistance, patient navigation, and child-friendly facilities at the National Children's Hospital and the Philippine Children's Medical Center.
“This collaboration helps us bring to life AIA’s Purpose — helping people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives — in a deeply meaningful way, extending our contributions to the communities we serve,” AIA Philippines chief marketing officer Melissa Henson said in a press statement.
“By supporting Kythe Foundation, we help enable vital psychosocial care and patient support programs that empower children with critical illnesses and give their families greater strength and resilience throughout their healthcare journey. We feel there is no better way to mark the launch of our new health products AIA Critical Protect Plus and BPI AIA MultiCare Protect,” Henson said.
The bigger picture
Founded in 1992, the Kythe Foundation pioneered Child Life Services in the Philippines, helping pediatric patients cope with hospitalization through play, psychosocial support, and family-centered care. The latest donations will also fund psychosocial support kits for newly diagnosed patients and upgrades to Kythe's safe spaces in partner hospitals.
“At Kythe, we see every child beyond their diagnosis. We see their courage, fears, and hope,” Kythe Foundation executive director Magdalena Lopez said.
“We are grateful for our partnership with AIA and BPI AIA, whose commitment to supporting Filipino families goes beyond financial protection. Their support helps us care for children with cancer and chronic illnesses not only by addressing their physical needs, but also by supporting their emotional well-being and that of their families,” she added.
Customers who purchase either insurance product will be informed that a donation has been made to the Kythe Foundation on their behalf at no additional cost to their insurance premium. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
