The project, set to begin in March 2025, will power up by year-end.
The installations at SM City Lucena, SM City Sta. Mesa, SM City Tarlac, and SM City East Ortigas will have a 7.5 MWp capacity, generating 11,000 MWh annually. This will cover 16 percent of each mall’s energy needs, cutting dependence on traditional power.
“Integrating renewable energy sources into our operations is part of our long-term strategy to achieve our net zero goals, enhance operational efficiency and contribute to a more sustainable business,” said SM Prime president Jeffrey C. Lim.
SM Prime is a frontrunner in net-zero commitments, with 44 out of 87 malls already using solar power. Its total solar capacity exceeds 50 MWp, reducing emissions equivalent to removing thousands of cars from roads.
Team Energy, via TeaM (Philippines) Energy Corp. (TPEC), will equip the project with bifacial solar panels, which capture sunlight from both sides and degrade at just 0.4 percent annually, ensuring long-term efficiency.
“We are committed to delivering high-performance solar solutions that meet international engineering standards. Through regular monitoring and preventive maintenance, we will ensure these systems operate at peak efficiency for the entire 20-year contract period,” said TPEC president Tristan Taghoy.
