This marks a major achievement within a decade of operations in the Philippines, showcasing Alfamart’s commitment to improving grocery accessibility for local communities.
Alfamart—born from a joint venture between SM and Indonesia’s PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk—has grown rapidly since its first store in June 2014. With a focus on serving underserved communities, it has expanded its footprint across the country, bringing essential goods to Filipino households.
Management’s view
“Alfamart sees immense value in serving underserved communities. Our 2000th store marks a pivotal milestone, and the warm reception in Sta. Rosa underscores the impact our presence can have,” Harvey Ong, chief operating officer of Alfamart, said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We are dedicated to providing a variety of merchandise, including fresh produce and frozen goods, tailored to meet local needs,” he added.
Hybrid model
Alfamart’s hybrid model blends the convenience of a corner store with the broader offerings of a supermarket, a concept gaining popularity across Southeast Asia.
This approach caters to families and local markets that prioritize convenience. The chain offers a wide range of products, including ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat items, targeting on-the-go customers.
Backed by distribution centers in Laguna, Quezon, Cavite, Bulacan, and Pampanga, Alfamart ensures a consistent supply chain to its 2000 stores.
The new branch in Sta. Rosa is the 18th in the area and has been warmly received by local officials and residents.
