The latest supply contract between Globe and First Gen marks the fourth year of partnership between the two industry leaders.
Under the new supply contract, First Gen will provide renewable energy for a key network facility of Globe and a data center under subsidiary ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines.
The power supply for the two Globe network facilities will be sourced from the Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant in Leyte, operated by First Gen subsidiary Energy Development Corp.
To date, First Gen provides renewable energy supply for three Globe facilities. The partnership between First Gen and Globe started in 2020 with the latter’s data center in Tarlac.
“First Gen and Globe share the same vision of a decarbonized and regenerative future where sustainability is ingrained into the organization and operations,” Carlos Lorenzo Vega, vice president for power marketing, trading and economics at First Gen, said in a statement.
“We are pleased to continue our partnership and are committed to supporting Globe as it journeys towards greater efficiency and reduced environmental impact,” he added.
Globe has been ramping-up its use of renewable energy and shifting to energy-efficient solutions to reduce its carbon footprint while ensuring network resilience and reliability.
